GREEN’S BOOKS is a book and paper conservation studio providing a range of expert conservation services and bookbinding tuition. Arthur undertakes interventive treatments on a range of library and archive material from different cultures; from modern printed paper books to medieval parchment charters. With experience working on treasures from some of the UK’s most important collections – such as the Bodleian and the British Library – treatment proposals are tailored to individual items and executed to the highest standards. Treatments range from a simple tear repair on a precious document, to sympathetically re-binding a book that no longer functions.
Bookbinding and conservation tuition is offered throughout the year with a programme of workshops and events. Workshops are themed around historic bookbinding structures and various conservation techniques and treatments. An open studio arrangement is available for a more flexible approach to learning, where a personalised syllabus or project can be arranged to suit.
A consultation service is also available to offer advice on the preservation of collections – whether they be small private libraries or larger institutional libraries or archives. Storage, handling, pest-management, and environmental conditions are all assessed to provide cost effective advice to help care for your collection.
